Rainforest Publications' Costa Rica Mammals Fold-out Pocket Field Guide shows 90 of the 216 mammal species recorded for Costa Rica. Almost all the species not included here are bats and small rodents, which generally can not be identified unless they are trapped.

The illustrations on this fold-out field guide from Rainforest Publications were created by British naturalist, Mark Wainwright, who has lived and worked in Monteverde, Costa Rica, since 1991.

Mammal measurements shown on the field guide are the distance between the tip of the snout and the base of the tail for average-sized adults. Track measurements are the distance across the widest point of the hindtrack.

The illustration of each species on the field guide is accompanied by the name of the species in English, Spanish, and Latin. On the Rainforest Publications' Costa Rica mammals and tracks field guide, the letters after the English name represent the distribution with Costa Rica:
